The inspiration for Onyx House came from the location itself, situated on a partially old building plot surrounded by a forest. Deev saw the potential in utilizing the existing forest and the landscape's relief to create a design that would open the first floor to nature while providing a cocoon-like environment. The colors, light, and texture of the chosen materials mimic the natural elements, allowing the house to blend harmoniously with its surroundings. The evening light reflects off the tree trunks, while the color of the front facade harmonizes with the tree bark. The stonewall fireplace emerges from the ground, resembling a natural formation.
The design realization of Onyx House incorporates modern construction techniques. The structural construction is reinforced concrete, while the insulation consists of styrofoam, ensuring both durability and energy efficiency.
With dimensions of 14.2m (depth) x 16.5m (width) x 7.4m (height), Onyx House offers a spacious and comfortable living space for its residents. The carefully planned layout maximizes natural light and views, creating a harmonious living environment.
The project, which began in July 2010, was completed in November 2010 in Tallinn. Construction started in January 2011 and concluded in March 2012. Throughout the process, Viacheslav Deev led a team of talented individuals who contributed their expertise to bring the design to life.
Onyx House has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2013. This recognition highlights the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which authentically combines art, science, and technology. The award acknowledges the project's contribution to quality of life improvements and its ability to make the world a better place.
Onyx House stands as a testament to the power of design to seamlessly integrate with nature, creating a harmonious and secure living environment. Viacheslav Deev's vision and attention to detail have resulted in a truly remarkable residential house that exemplifies the best of art, architecture, and innovation.
